One Big Bunny
April 10, 2006 by cavman

This is the Andre the Giant of rabbits. Are we sure a child isn’t wearing a bunny suit???
Apparently this rabbit (with its 2 big, sharp pointy teeth) was terrorizing farmers in England. It must have been taken out by the Holy Hand Gernade.
WHY ARE THEY KILLING THAT BUNNY
edited by Cavman
I don’t know if they actually killed the rabbit. This rabbit was a pest and the farmers have a right & responsibility to protect their crops if they so choose.
If they want to house and feed it, that is their choice as well. It is a rabbit, not a person.
i hate how people do that. humans came in and took over the land of these creatures and they get killed just for trying to survive in a new structure of life.
Man A shoots Man B = Man A goes to jail for a bit and gets released
Dog bites Man C = Dog gets put to death
thus, animals are not allowed to protect themselves. and the little rights that they have, or atleast we think they have dont really help em much out of certain situations.
and animals are “just animals”. they are living breathing things, that once had a nice home for themselves before humans came and tore it all down and continue to tear it down. I saw a white jack rabbit the other day in the middle of Downtown Edmonton. he blended in quite well, but his bright white fur didnt match against the dirty brown snow. I thought what a shame really. his ancestors home would have bright white snow too.
If we are just another animal, I could understand your viewpoint.
But from the perspective that we are made in God’s image, and are intended to subdue and rule the earth… it looks a bit different. We should not exploit or torture animals. But we may kill them for food, and eliminate pests. We are more important than they are.
So, our presuppositions in this matter will greatly determine how we view the problem.
more superior… in “god’s image”. ppbbbbbb. thats ridiculous!
whatever happened to “everything is equal in God’s eyes”
ok ok yes i see your point. Some pests etc to be killed for our food. yup, so god wants us to be all mighty does he…boy did he make a mistake. most humans are dumb. we create things that are retarded, we destroy others, animals home, global warming (gee i wonder if that was in gods almighty plan…), bush (i wonder if god’s receptionist made a mistake. instead of plant she put him down as a human)
so we can have the right to defend for our food and supplies? but animals cant?
without the animals, we die. i can understand shooting a deer for its meat (im not vegetarian)
but shooting an animal because it nibbled a few crops??
humans arent as intelligent as people make them. If we were still gorillas or even cavemen, we would have more respect for this planet then we do now -_-.
I’m not sure where you find the idea of “everything is equal in God’s eyes”.
I believe the Bible when it says (Genesis 1) that we were made in God’s image, and in the “creation mandate” as a result.
I also believe that Adam & Eve disobeyed. As a result people live in rebellion against God. It has affected every part of us, including our brains. We’ve made ourselves fools. We also tend to exploit creation for our ends, rather than God’s.
Wow. Somehow I missed this when you posted it two weeks ago. That’s a big bunny.
That was from 2006, so you may not have been a regular yet. Yes, a huge stinking bunny.
rabbits rock my socks
thats a cute wittle bunny, can i have him?
Amanda
Rabbits are not native to England. They were introduced by…… man.
cavman you sicken me how dare yousay we have a rite to take over there land and kill the poor little things !!!!!1=( . they were here first and we are not above them!!
So, Megan, where do you live? Was it once the habitation of small furry animals? Have you ‘unjustly’ evicted those critters?
By your logic we should not have homes, nor protect the crops we raise. That is just nonsensical.
for some reason this bunny has inspired quite the heated debate regarding animal rights, or the lack thereof. so i’m running with that, even though i’m hella late.
from a logical perspective, i wonder why the arguments for vegetarianism are so difficult for people to swallow (no pun intended). put simply, either we can eat animals, which causes pain, or eat plants, which doesn’t. from a logical perspective the question is basically would you rather shoot puppies or pick flowers? would you rather set a horse on fire or pick a banana? how about trying to decide whether or not to drown kittens or make toast?
the best argument for eating meat is that it tastes good. if that is seriously a good enough reason for you, then may god have mercy on your soul.
Some of that seems less than logical in the sense that no one advocates killing puppies or setting horses on fire.
Humanity has a role in the care & management of creation, including the animals. We are one the ‘predators’ that keeps some animal populations in check. If we fail to function in that role, evidence shows that some animals run rampant and other forms of life seriously decline (see the history of Yellowstone Park, as cited by Michael Crighton).
dude amanda u r so write just because a rabbit nibbles on crop doesnt mean u have to shoot it they were here first y didnt the farmer put a fence around his crop and leave a small chunk of his crop un fenced for the rabit a little bit of crop not fenced off ist going to destroy the money u make i mean cmon y would u kill that bunny thats…thats just absolutly horrible
hi
this is a message to all those farmers, i am a vegetarian and most vegetrains adore animals and think it is so cruel to hurt or kill an animal.
So if you killed that helpless rabbit i think some one should kill you. how dare you hurt it what else was it suppose to eat? so i thinkall you farmers should go hang yourselves thats what you diserve after killing an innocent animal.
i am actually looking for a giant house rabbit so i was looking it up and up came your site and i had to see a disgusting picture of you holding the rabbit by its scruff ( you never hold it like that it must be so heavy so think of the pain the helpless rabbit is in)
hideously yours
j.
Jessica,
that is not be in the pic.
interesting worldview you have. rabbits are = to people, or perhaps rabbits are > than people. I am assuming you have an evolutionary view of how life began which would explain the former. but then what of “survival of the fittest”? in the struggle for food, who are we to say which should live and which should die (by your worldview)?
what is the philosophical basis for your moral standards? if there is no God, and we are a cosmic accident, how can you say what this man is doing is wrong? right & wrong would merely be social convention, and you’d have no right to denounce this man in a different social/cultural context than your own.
honestly yours,
C
AMANDA… You are my friend! As I read your blogs aloud with my son, I commented to him that “This sounds just like something I’d argue, and with the same words!” You’ve got it all right …. and those who are TOO dumb to SEE the point and get the big picture do not deserve to be breathing the air here, nor feeding off the earths’ soil! As you said, if nature dies we die, if the animals die we die. No other creature has such selfish, greedy motivations. Nor our ancient ancestors (BEFORE the vikings, romans, etc) who lived in peace and harmony with this earth — which, by universal LAW is required in order to survive here! GET IT PEOPLE… as Amanda and I have! Get over your testosterone and get some sensitivity in your hearts! What is it with our attitude’s these days … where do you get the gall to act as superior as the “Creator” and decide that we “don’t need them” or “they have no rights”! It sickens me to my core. It is this attitude that makes me wish I was not alive on this planet during this time.. however, I must assume that I’m here to speak with this tone to help break through some of those really thick heads out there. So, here is a piece of it.
Thanks Amanda for your kind heart! Keep up the great work!
Katrina
This is ridiculous.
Animals (including people) operate under universal laws of territory and diet. The rabbit eats vegetables. The farmer eats vegetables. The farmer, being the more powerful predator, kills the rabbit due to its encroachment on its (the farmer’s) territory, and the farmer gains the disputed territory for itself. There is no question of whether it was the farmer’s “right” or whether the rabbit or its ancestors “was there first”.
Please stop anthropomorphizing these creatures; it does more harm than good.
Sorry. All I can think of is Monty Python and the Quest for the holy grail at this point.
Perhaps a reference to Bunny Burgers would be horribly inapropos here…
i think that is descusting i have seven rabbits and i would never hold it like that letalon menchion rabbit burger ur descusting a bunny is born it needs 2 find food u have the food wat else is it suppost 2 do im a vegaterian 2 and u by holding a rabbit or bunny like that u can damage the very few cells they have it there nek and bak and sam with ears corzez deffnece and vertabray damage in vegatarian eyes:y do u love animals called pet and eat animals called meat some thing died so it could come out ya ass no its not right how would u like 2 be born 2 die its not laughting matter they will never see the sun rise they will never see it sett they will never feel love they will only feel death and hear u are chewing and useing a knife
I guess you didn’t imagine posting that pic would create such controversy.
I’m not against killing pests such as rabbits when their presence results in the destruction of native species such as in Australia. However, I don’t agree we should kill animals just because they are ‘interfering’ with a farmers crops. We need to protect our livelihood as well as protecting animals. There is room in this world for both. We are not above animals, we need to work with them.
