I’ve been trying to keep my head in the sand because it is just plain ugly out there. Let me rephrase that, according to the news reports it is just plain ugly out there. You would think that nothing was good. While the economy has gotten sluggish lately, we still see some good growth and the employment figures are good. The vast number of Americans never check the stats and only believe what they hear and the consumer confidence polls become self-fulfilling prophecy. Oddly, the consumer confidence is higher though the market has hit some bumps and the housing market stinks. Go figure… it was low when things were better.
Here’s what I’ve been considering:
1. Why are we wasting so much time over the firing of a few attornies? This is completely a politically driven non-scandal. It just reeks of attempts to undermine the President. At least during the Ken Starr extravaganza, there were no big foreign policy issues requiring our energy.
2. The Democrat all-nighter to end the surge that supposedly wasn’t working even though the surge was not complete. More politically driven stupidity. I think we could fight this thing a whole lot better, but we will only create more problems by pulling out. Let our troops get the job done- realize it is a guerrilla war, not a PR contest. Fight to win or don’t fight at all.
3. I can’t believe Obama’s plan to fight Al-Queda in Pakistan. First of all, unlike Iraq, Pakistan is an ally. Yes, there are radical muslims trying to kill their leader… but it is still an ally. To go against their wishes and intrude in the mountains could potentially be disasterous. It would give the extremists fodder to gain control. Last I checked, Mr. Smarter than Me Obama, they had nuclear weapons. We stopped Sadam from getting those, but Pakistan has them. Put those in the hands of an extremist government and we have much bigger problems than in Iraq. I’m not sure why the Democrats, and some Republicans, don’t want to fight Al-Queda in Iraq. Sure beats any other option I can think of because unfortunately we are going to have to fight them.
4. This Presidential election has been going on too long already. ZZZZZZZZZ. Wake me next summer, please. Who in their right mind figured these folks have to campaign for nearly 2 freakin’ years- and on our dime since most of them have jobs representing their states already. The Republicans seem to have a number of candidates who aren’t currently serving in some office, thankfully. I’m hoping that most of them will be over-exposed (like McCain has been) and ignored. There is no one yet who makes me go- that’s the guy I want as my President. I’m afraid it won’t happen (though I think a few of them get the big picture internationally).
5. Some people are too freakin’ concerned about our ‘international reputation’. It has not stopped people from wanting to move here, sell us their products or buy ours. I’m not too concerned with the fact that our enemies hate us (shocker!), or that some of our former allies have a conflict of interest that puts them at odds with our plans. You do what is right (as best as you can figure it). There is always someone going to be ticked at you. Make sure it is the right ones.
6. It didn’t take long to start pointing fingers about the bridge collapse. They haven’t even found all the bodies yet and the politicians are at it. There is more to life than trying to win an election. Think about the people whose lives have been forever altered- have compassion on them. Stop the knee jerk reactions… we can’t control everything. Bad, horrible things will happen that no one could foresee.
Time to put my head back in the sand. I have better things to consider so I don’t get sucked down into the pool of negativity.
