I had not heard of this, but when I think about it, it was inevitable that someone would compile a rapture index.
“The Rapture Index has two functions: one is to factor together a number of related end time components into a cohesive indicator, and the other is to standardize those components to eliminate the wide variance that currently exists with prophecy reporting.
“The Rapture Index is by no means meant to predict the rapture, however, the index is designed to measure the type of activity that could act as a precursor to the rapture.
“You could say the Rapture index is a Dow Jones Industrial Average of end time activity, but I think it would be better if you viewed it as prophetic speedometer. The higher the number, the faster we’re moving towards the occurrence of pre-tribulation rapture. “
Included in all of the various indexes are many things associated with the Fall of Jerusalem which Jesus predicted accurately in AD 70. The signs are associated with that event, repeated said to occur within a generation (40 years in biblical context- so Jesus hit the nail on the head). The Second Coming comes like a theif in the night- meaning there are NO signs. The fact that Jesus got the first one right, provides assurance that He also is right about the second.
Just another reason for non-Christians to laugh at us (kinda like “88 Reasons the Rapture will Be in 1988” quickly followed by “89 Reasons the Rapture will be in 1989”). That was the beginning of the end of my short love-affair with dispensationalism and pre-millennialism. Story for another day….
Cavman: Someone on the web pointed out that the Rapture Index’s “precursors” – which supposedly point to only a pre-tribulation rapture – are on earth and actually fulfilled during the tribulation and in reality point to only the final, big Second Coming of Matthew 24. And that it would be more truthful to call it The Tribulation Index or Final Second Coming Index. Since many are now offering documentation that the pre-tribulation rapture is a 19th century invention and not a 1st century instruction, the Rapture Index looks suspiciously like a hoax resting on a hoax! Anyone wanting a little history about the same rapture can go Googling and put in “Pretrib Rapture Diehards.” Bruce
I don’t know what to call it……. Tribulation is an ongoing thing. I guess we could measure how bad things are for the universal church (chucking out the signs of the destruction of Jerusalem). But… what would be the point… apart from the theological system created by John Nelson Darby, this makes sense to no one.
