After going 0-4 in the preseason without any snaps taken by the NFL’s 2007 MVP Tom Brady, the Patriots (and their fans) greatest fear was an injury to their quarterback.

That didn’t take long. On their second series a defender rolled up on his left leg while he was completing a pass to Randy Moss. Out, gone, start praying people. One sports injury expert, Will Carroll, suspects it is his PCL. Strain or torn, who knows.
Amazingly, the Patriots pulled off a victory without their leader (17-10). They benefit from a weak schedule early on, so perhaps they can remain competitive while Tom’s knee heals.
Update: Multiple sources are saying it’s a torn ACL, and Tom is done for the season. They reportedly have FA QB Chris Simms coming in tomorrow. That’ll be quite the drop off! This could be quite the long season.
Brady is a great QB. No question!
Will the Pats miss him?
You bet; they may miss the playoffs too.
[Jim Mora: “Playoffs??”]
But Peter King, Costas etc. Sunday night? Good grief!!
Joe Theismann’s career was ended on the playing field!
Chuck Hughes suffered a heart attack and died on the field!
Sean Taylor was murdered last year during the season.
Jim Kelly’s struggled and retired a year earlier than he wanted, due to his dying son’s declining condition. He died a couple of years ago.
Remember when Boomer Esiason NFL QB was notified his son Gunnar had cystic fibrosis? He was quite emotional…
Brady?
Knee injury, limped off, could walk down stairs, will play and make millions next year.
And will be womanizing again in a few months….
Hey, no one knows how good I am.
And you know why?
At USC I was behind starting QB Carson Palmer.
Then I was behind starter Matt Leinart.
So, I never got to play in college.
Anyone ever heard of Swen Nater?
Ted, who are you to complain about womanizing???? 🙂
I think the proper term is serial monogamy of the fornicating kind.
Welcome to the culture of fornication.
Today I had this to say to the Media.
J-E-T-S JETS?
You all will know my name come Sunday night.

Hey watch it…
yes, you are correct; it is middle school to be glad someone suffered a physical injury.
Yes sir, Yes sir indeed.
Now did I not tell you folks by Sunday night many more of you would know who I am?
Brett Favre, Brett Favre, the NY Bretts ….
Oh brother.
Like I said, at USC I was behind Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.
Now everyone knows we went to NYJ played them at their place, went in there w/ out Tom Brady and won a divisional game, against a team that hates our guts!
I can play in this league; we are 2-0 thank you very much.
“Matt”, don’t get too puffed up. Plenty of season to go.
I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you!
The power has shifted!
Now, I see what I did not want to admit last year.
The power actually was shifting last year, as the NFC East was clearly the best division last year, though folks still wanted to say the AFC South.
But last year Dallas, Washington and oh yea, the SB champs all made the playoffs while Philly was last and they were still a tough opponent.
This year Dallas, Philly and NY Giants all look awfully strong.
Washington looked awful in week one but seeing how NYG faired this week, maybe the NFC East is far away the best division…
In fact I just checked the ESPN power rankings to see if those guys agree, and here is what I found:
1. Dallas [booo!]
2. Pittsburgh
3. NY Giants
4. Green Bay
5. Philly
Matt Cassell is probably hot about this saying they should still be in the top 5….
I’m sure Bill has a copy of it in the locker room. Food for motivation.
