Sunday was a pretty good day in Beijing. They went to an international church service. You need to produce your passport to get in. The song verses alternated between English and Chinese. She felt for the guy who preached- all different Christian heritages represented with different expectations for preaching. She thought it went well. She also learned that this was the church facility where Bible Study Fellowship met. She’s been involved with Bible Study Fellowship for nearly a decade.
After worship they went to the jade factory and then the Great Wall. Not the best day to see the Great Wall since it was cloudy & foggy. So… she bought a souviner book.
Foodwise, she says the breakfasts at the hotel have been fantastic. The authentic cuisine for lunch/dinner has been hit or miss. You aren’t always sure what it is, and CavWife is not the most culinary adventuresome person. You don’t order, but they bring out these platters on a huge lazy susan-type thing. (no, Joe Torre & Charles Steinberg weren’t part of their tour, must there like the next day)
When we spoke she was ready to go to sleep. It is an early morning as they fly to Guangzhou (sadly, missing the hotel breakfast). If you are of the praying kind, one of the group members may have meningitis. His symptoms started Wednesday and he’s been hospitalized. He’s a really nice guy, says CavWife. We also aren’t sure if his is contagious, which could become a big problem for the whole group. She also met an OPC pastor from VA. For those who don’t know that means Orthodox Presbyterian Church, which we other Presbyterians jokingly call the Only Pure Church, or Only Presbyterian Church.
Things are quiet on this end. We had a big storm last night with thunder & lightening. The tornado warnings were to the north, and by the coast. My in-laws are due to arrive this afternoon. They may think they arrived on a cool NY day- it be chilly here this morning.
Update: CavDaughter did okay during church today. She actually knew bits of one of the songs so she sang that instead of just super-imposing the words of one she does know. While she napped my in-laws arrived. That was a great surprise for her. I suddenly became unimportant to her. It was all about Mema. Small group was lowkey. CavDaughter and her friend may quite the mess spilling water and then lemonade in the kitchen. I kept having to leave during prayer requests.
I’m glad everything seems to be going so smoothly! I hope the food situation gets better but I’m sure once she gets Eli in her arms nothing else will matter. Congratulations you your family!
Lindsey (another BabyCenter friend!)
I didnt know she was in BSF, cool.
My family has finished up the 7 years and will probably take a run thru it again soon. is she a discussion leader?
The trip sounds wonderful, exciting and fascinating.
Yeah, the food thing might give me the willys, ya really never know whats in the food~ have you watched the international food network shows?
She’s been working with the kids. One reason she kept with it past the 7 year cycle was the kids program. It has been great for CavDaughter. We often sing some of the songs with her at night. She’s socializing, apart from mom ….
The BSF ladies threw her a shower and we got lots of clothes & toys for Eli, and a few for CavDaughter too so she wouldn’t feel left out. Really great of them.
Yeah, there’s that one guy who thrives on finding the most disgusting and shocking international foods. Not disgusting but I’d have to be really hungry to eat a guinea pig- even if they taste like chicken 🙂
[…] Day Four was a Sunday so they got to worship in the International Church in Beijing. You had to leave your passport at the door. Then it was off to the Great Wall (I need to put a new photo up for that). She was in town at the same time as Joe Torre and Charles Steinberg, but didn’t see them. When Mima showed up, I was suddenly unimportant to Jadon. There’s nothing like the power of a grandmother to sooth a child. The Patriots won the AFC Championship game to stay perfect on the season (I refuse to think of the Super Bowl at this point!). […]
